This course aims to initiate the beginner student and develop improved techniques for advanced students issues:
Basic techniques of progression in mountain on different types of terrain. (We won't use rope)
Guidance, cartography, map reading and route design using tools such as compass and map measurer. (We will not use GPS).
Creating bivouacs, scheduled and overnight emergency.
Basic Survival mountain.
Weather forecast in the mountains.
First aid.
 
COURSE STRUCTURE

  • 30 hours 
  • minimum / maximum student number: 4/12
  • Theory: Monday to Thursday through the Moodle platform (online)
  • Practice: Muro d'Alcoy natural enviornment. Friday or Saturday (depending on students number) to Sunday.
  • Bivouac overnight, dinner at Muro d'Alcoy house and lunch on route.
 

WARNING: during the course we will do a route between 15 and 20 km long and between +700 and +1000 m. uphill. It's needed a physical condition according to these parameters.


MANDATORY MATERIAL:

  • mountain boots or shoes, long and shorts trousers, breathable shirt, fleece, waterproof jacket, cap: suitable to mountain weather permitting clothing.
  • Solar protection.
  • If you have a first aid kit or survival kit you can take it and we can talk about it.
  • Map of Sierra de Mariola of Tossal publisher (we can order it)
  • Compass, pencil and ruler (if you have curvimeter it would be also useful but not required)
  • Food and other utensils need to go for 3 days (we can fill water at the farm and will have a refrigerator and microwave but no kitchen, you can take a little stove)
  • Canvas or tarp for bivouacs. Rope and knife. Also useful, if you have, walk sticks.
  • Backpack to carry water and food for the routes.
